We make it easy to connect students with community members.

Do you have students who have interesting questions to ask? Do you need someone to act as a liaison and facilitate a project connecting your students to members of the Jackson community? If so, let’s do a project together!

  1. The first step is to contact Michelle Rooks or Karin Waidley via email: theInterviewProject@tcsd.org

  2. We will meet (in person or via zoom) to discuss the goals of your project and the interviews desired. We will clarify all logistics.

  3. As you prepare your students, we will find community members willing to share their experiences.

  4. The Interview Project team will coordinate the scheduling of the interview. We are also available to facilitate the interview.

  5. A video will be edited complete with a transcript and shared with you and your students. Videos will also be posted on our projects page.

Interview Questions:

Introduction:

  • Please introduce yourself.

  • Please explain the adversity that you have faced and overcome.

  • Is there any other context you consider important?

  • We are studying the acronym ADDRESSING. Which - if any - of these categories most contributed to the adversity you experienced?

B - Body Awareness

We have learned that emotions are the communication systems for our bodies. How did your body communicate with you during this adverse time? Did you listen? How did your body respond to your solution(s)? What alerts do you now notice?

H - Humor

How do you find laughter and/or lighten up during adverse times? How do you use humor now? How has this changed? Who or what helps you “lighten up”?

A - Actitivies

We have learned that activities give us a way to distract ourselves from the adversity we face. What activities contributed to the adversity? What activities contribute to your ability to face and/or overcome the adversity?

A - Alone TIme

How do you reconnect with yourself? Is being alone something you prioritize? Is alone time important to you? How does it help? OR What gets in the way of being alone? Do you take advantage of the natural surroundings in Jackson?

H - Help

Who did you look to for help? Why? How did/didn’t they help? Why? Who ultimately helped you? Who helps you now? How do you reach out and help others?

S - Self-Talk

What do you say to yourself? What negative or disempowering thoughts used to take up space in your head? How do you now combat negative or disempowering thoughts? What thoughts have replaced them? Do you have a mantra?

A - Action Plan

What actions most contribute to your ability to overcome this adversity? What allowed you to take these steps? What got in the way? If you could go back in time, what would you do differently?

O - Own It!

Who did you blame for the adversity? Who did you think was responsible? How did you stop the “blame game”? How has this helped? How do you “own” situations now? How does this help you to face and/or overcome adversity?

Conclusion:

  • We often hear that adversity makes us stronger. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

  • We hope that this interview is as impactful for you as we predict it will be for us. Is there anything new that occurred to you because of this interview?

  • We are at the end of the interview. Please share your one final thought!

  • THANK YOU.
